Taste of DC Festival takes over Pennsylvania Ave

Taste of DC is an awesome event for food, wine, and beer lovers- just get there early! The line to get in was long but manageable, and the event didn't really become uncomfortably crowded until late afternoon. The $20 price tag for a ticket is well worth it; you get several vouchers for drinks (resourceful as always, I found quite a few more on the ground too!) as well as a coupon for a free meal from Shop House.

You could choose to taste ($1-$2) or have a full pour ($5-$7) of a huge array of drinks. The nice people pouring samples along the "Wine Walk" were volunteers, so I was a bit disappointed they couldn’t tell me more about what I was drinking. I was allowed to pick up and inspect the bottles, however, and found a few yummy wines from New Zealand, Chile, Australia, and the US.  After about 8 or 9 generous "tastes,” I didn't really mind the lack of high-level wine discussion...

I attended Taste of DC on Saturday, when there was also some sort of unappetizing competitive eating contest going on, as well as a few cooking demonstrations. There were also a few bands who performed, adding to the great atmosphere along with perfect weather. Overall, Taste of DC is a great festival for DC food and wine lovers. I'm looking forward to going again next year!
